Merlin the Marvellous Magician – David Hopper
David trained at Sage academy of performing arts. Recent theatre credits include Alberto Bertorelli in allo allo (Customs House, Ion), Dominic in ‘Fifteen Streets’ (Customs House, Ion,) Uncle Fester in the ‘Addams family’ musical (People’s Theatre, Nice Swan) Chuck in ‘Footloose’ (Sunderland Empire) Dandini in ‘Fairytales and Fables’ (UK national tour, entertainment unlimited), featured vocalist in ‘Rock and Roll and Remember’ (UK national tour, Entertainment Unlimited).
Film credits include emcee in big river big songs the Tyne (Geoff wonfor) Boy in without saying (Paul Dingwall, nominated for best short film by virgin media) Rob in N.E.E.T.s (jigsaw media). David has been a regular performer for the past four years at the Consett Empire pantomime.
This year he will portray the genie of the lamp in Aladdin. He is a regular performer at the Elephant on the Tyne hotel. David also runs Hopper productions, a south shields based musical theatre company whose last show raised over- £1300 for clic sargent. A charity supporting young children suffering with cancer. This is David’s first show with Theatre Space NE and looks forward to working with them again in the future
Cat / Sir Kay / Knight / Lady of Shalott – Helen Bowie
King Arthur’s Adventures in Sunderland marks Helen’s third production with Theatre Space NE this year alone, having been cast as Witch 1/ Lady Macduff/ Messenger in Macbeth and Annabella/ Pamela/ Margaret in The 39 Steps. Previous roles have included the titular character in Anne Boleyn (Royalty Theatre); Julia Simmons in A Murder is Announced (Royalty Theatre); Miranda in The Tempest (Theatre Space North East) and Edith Harnham in The Day After the Fair (Royalty Theatre).
She has also directed Royalty Theatre Youth Academy’s version of The Tempest and was Assistant Director for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (Royalty Theatre).
Helen can be next seen as Rosalind in Theatre Space NE’s As You Like It (21st – 23rd August, Barnes Park). Helen loves working with Theatre Space NE and can’t wait for their new writing festival (see TSNE website for details), which sees several of her pieces being performed.
Messenger / Arthur – Jay Sykes
Jay Sykes is a 22 year old audio producer, and MA Radio student at the University of Sunderland, originally hailing from West Yorkshire. Theatre has always been one of Jay’s biggest passions, and he’s once again thoroughly excited to be acting with Theatre Space North East.
With a comedy as hilarious as David Farn’s “King Arthur’s Adventures”, Jay is enjoying working with the cast and crew, and loves exploring the dim-witted but good-natured part of King Arthur. He cannot wait to bring this adventure to life in Sunderland’s Mowbray Park.
Jay has performed several times with the company; Trinculo in “The Tempest”, Banquo in “Macbeth”, and as a Christmas Elf and Playing Card at collaborative events with Sunderland Live. Jay is also due to play Touchstone in their upcoming production of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”.

Sir Ector / Peasant / Coach / Sir Accolon / Galahad – Gareth Scott
Gareth Scott has undergone performing arts training for six years, and the 2014 productions of Macbeth, King Arthur’s Adventures and As You Like It mark his first performances outside of a college environment. He is ecstatic to have been given a chance to perform with Theatre Space North-East, and relishes the opportunity to test himself through performance outside of a standard theatre.
Although he has no other paid acting credits to his name, Gareth has written, directed and performed his own play, “Felt and Blood” for Live Across Newcastle 2013, and has lent his talent for impressions to the developing flash animation series, “Lizard Cops
Sticky the Stick Monster* / Sir Lancelot – Alex Goodchild
Alex is a teenage actor who became involved with Theatre Space NE through their Royalty Theatre Youth Academy. He will be playing Sir Lancelot in “King Arthur’s Adventures” and playing Jaques, Le Beau and William in “As You Like It”. His main past acting experience is in theatre however he has also been involved with screen work such as the films “Goal!” & “Temporal” along with tv work such as “Carrie & David’s Pop Shop” on CBeebies and BBC’s “Inspector George Gently”. Outside of acting he is currently studying for his A-levels with the goal of going on to university to further his education in acting. He also sing in a rock duo named “Ruin the Humour” with James Errington who is also involved with Theatre Space NE.
Lady of the Lake / Guinevere – Merewyn Day
Merewyn is excited to work with Corinne and the cast and crew from Theatre Space North East in her first professional performance. Merewyn is new to performance having accidently won a part from an audition at the Royalty Theatre last November! After ‘Murder is Announced’ she went on to perform again for the Royalty Theatre in ‘Up Pompeii’ in June. Merewyn accidentally wrote a play performed under the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays scheme a little while ago and has since enjoyed writing, character analysis and drama. She’s currently writing children’s stories. Merewyn’s next project is a production assistant for As You Like It, before embarking on Wellesley’s Ivy League MOOC, ‘Shakespeare on the page and in Performance’ this autumn. Merewyn is developing her Health Life Coaching Website and support tool, due to launch in May 2015 for sufferers of chronic illness to help them maximise life quality called: mydaytoday.uk
Sticky the Stick Monster* / Morgan le Fay / Maid – Megan Hopper
Megan is soon to embarking on the 3rd year of her degree at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, studying BA (Hons) Community Drama. Here she is learning to develop skills in producing drama by, with and for specific communities with the aim of social or politic change. As her degree takes her behind the scenes, she is eager to take to the stage. Previously, she has worked with Theatre Space NE’s in their production of The Tempest, in the role of Stephano, and a Witch in Macbeth. Having thoroughly enjoyed the experience, she is excited to work with them again on the up and coming shows.
Stage Manager: John Reed:
John first became involved with Theatre Space NE as a rehearsal assistant for their production of “Macbeth” before going on to stage manage “King Arthur’s Adventures”. These opportunities have allowed him to develop his love of dramatic production and have encouraged him to participate in theatre in the future. Having graduated in BA (Hons) Film and Media at Sunderland University, John has a strong background in media production, directing several short drama films and currently making a film to enter into the Port of Tyne short film awards. Outside of university John has also participated in factual media production, directing live coverage of the Sunderland air show for student radio station Spark TV and two teaser trailers for television producers Orion TV. After completing the production guild’s runner training, John is currently establishing himself as a production runner, with a desire to move into directing.
