Grafters Gables

History runs through these streets like treacle – thick, dark and sweet.

Grafters’ Gables is a unique combination of street art and storytelling. A free launch event will take place on Saturday, 13th June 2015, including a performance by award-winning theatre company, TheatreSpace NE. The launch event will begin at 5:30 pm, at the Carnegie Community Centre (what used to be Hendon Library) in Hendon, Sunderland.

All of the murals in the trail are the work of Sunderland’s street art sensation, Frank Styles. The paintings were all inspired by characters and events from Hendon’s history, and the scenes in the murals have also been woven into a book by local author, James Whitman. Two of the characters from this book will lead the audience on a tour of the murals, introducing the stories behind each painting.
