<image:title>Shows - GIRL IN THE MACHINE by Stef Smith - Synopsis</image:title>
<image:caption>GIRL IN THE MACHINE Stef Smith’s ground-breaking play Girl In The Machine explores our unease over digital intrusiveness and pushes it a step into the future in this ‘gripping sci-fi in the manner of Balck Mirror’ (The Guardian), which returns after a successful regional tour in 2022. Owen and Polly are in successful careers, wildly in love and ready to take on the world. But when a mysterious new technology, promising a break from the daily grind, creeps into everyone’s phones, their world is turned upside down. As the line between physical and digital dissipates, Owen and Polly are forced to question whether their definitions of reality and freedom are the same. ‘Placing your hope in humanity is a very dangerous thing.’ ‘Perhaps it’s a brave thing? Because freedom isn’t digital.’ REVIEWS OF THE 2022 TOUR: ‘…a powerful theatre performance…a tight and disturbing show that is a modern Play For Today,’ - North East Theatre Guide ‘Packs a poserful punch...Award-winning writer Stef Smith at her unexampled best with this veracious dissection of modern relationships in a technology-obsessed world.’ - NARC Magazine</image:caption>

<image:caption>Following the success of our production 'A Pain in the Arts' exploring lived experiences of chronic/persistent pain, Theatre Space North East have teamed up with Teesside University and Flippin' Pain to tour a brand-new show: THE UNINVITED GUEST "Did you know that on an average wedding breakfast table of ten people, 3 to 5 of those will be living with persistent or chronic pain? For some, it may be annoying; for others, life-changing. But one thing is for certain - things are never dull when you come face-to-face with The Uninvited Guest!" This fun, fast-paced and ultimately uplifting show is suitable for all, and shines a light on challenges and shared stories surrounding lived experience of persistent or chronic pain with reference to documented findings from the Flippin’ Pain public health campaign. Lasting around 60 minutes, with a short opportunity for a chat and feedback afterwards, we've had a wonderful time touring such work in the past. Come along and enjoy the wedding of the year...if they make it that far! ————————————— Suitable for audiences of all ages. <image:caption>"Kati-D" is 23 and has always been the life of the party...until recently. A born entertainer with the voice of an angel (according to her gran) she makes money running Open Mic Nights at the locals but has aspirations of bigger things. That is, until a recent diagnosis unexpectedly throws everything she has set out for herself into doubt, as a chronic condition begins to play a bigger and bigger part in her work, her interpersonal relationships, her life... But she's "Kati-D"! Surely she can keep it all together and still have the crowds in the palm of her hand night after night...or will this finally be a performance too far? Through drama, song, humour, highs, lows and more - inspired and influenced by a creative community workshop series exploring how chronic conditions effect the lives of those in South Tyneside and surrounding areas - A Pain in the Arts seeks to shine a light on the people behind chronic conditions, and raise awareness of the overwhelming and often unseen or unspoken effects on their lives.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Shows - Julius Caesar - Summer 2024 - Synopsis</image:title>
<image:caption>Monkwearmouth Colliery, 1984. Fresh from leading a striking workforce to victory by standing firm in the face of immense pressure from above to return to work at Monkwearmouth Colliery to undertake essential maintenance – the streets are ringing with Caesar’s name. But not everyone is in a position to celebrate: families are starving, anger is rife, futures are at stake...and desperate times sometimes call for desperate action. Deception, betrayal and socio-political unrest reach boiling point this summer – 40 years on since one of the cataclysmic industrial movement that changed the lives of so many forever.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Auditions - Summer Season 2023 - Synopsis</image:title>
<image:caption>We are excited to announce the return of our ever-popular Summer of Shakespeare, supported by Play on Shakespeare and Arts Council England. We are breaking new ground working with the Connor Brown Trust to bring local relevance and experience of knife crime to the story of Romeo and Juliet as well creating a production of The Tempest tied to our shipping heritage. Both productions will also have trainee placements and meaningful community engagement, with local community performers in the cast.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Auditions - Summer Season 2024 - Synopsis</image:title>
<image:caption>Theatre Space’s Summer of Shakespeare is back with a bang in 2024, with two full-scale modern verse adaptations of Shakesepare plays. As You Like It (Linisfarne, AD 793) will see new regimes push out the old with an Anglo-Saxon/Viking spin, whilst Julius Caesar (Monkwearmouth Colliery, 1984) will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the national miners’ strike and the societal and politcal unrest of the time.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshops + Packages - A Midsummer Night’s Dream - Activity Kit - Synopsis</image:title>
<image:caption>A Midsummer Night’s Dream* is a comedy by William Shakespeare that intertwines the lives of lovers, fairies, and actors. Set in Athens and a mystical forest, the play follows four young lovers who find themselves caught in a chaotic love triangle, complicated by the meddling of mischievous fairy Puck. Meanwhile, the fairy king Oberon and queen Titania are at odds, leading to magical mischief involving a love potion. The play also features a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play for the Duke’s wedding. Through enchantments, mistaken identities, and comedic situations, harmony is eventually restored, and the characters find love and resolution.</image:caption>

<image:title>Take Me Back To... - The Great Fire of London - Description</image:title>
<image:caption>Travel back in time to the year 1666 and witness one of the most catastrophic events in British history with this dynamic and engaging workshop that is aligned with the KS1 and KS2 History curriculum. “Take Me Back to The Great Fire of London” brings the devastating blaze to life, allowing pupils to explore the causes, the chaos, and the impact of this historical event through active participation and creative expression. Full Day In a full-day workshop, pupils will take the knowledge they’ve gained in the morning session and transform it into a powerful performance in the afternoon. Acting as narrators, they will guide an audience—whether fellow year groups, peers, or parents and carers—back through time to explain what they’ve learned about the fire's impact, causes, and the people involved. This performance will help pupils to solidify their learning while boosting communication skills and team spirit. Half Day In a half-day session, pupils will dive into the history of Medieval London, learning about the narrow streets, wooden houses, and the everyday lives of the people who lived there. They will gain a deep understanding of how the fire started in a small bakery on Pudding Lane and spread across the city, fuelled by the city's flammable architecture and a series of unfortunate circumstances, including the weather. Pupils will also explore the heroic and sometimes controversial actions of key figures who helped or hindered the fire-fighting efforts, as well as the techniques used to try and control the inferno.</image:caption>
