‘MARRAS’: An adult community theatre group for 18+
In the North East, a "Marra" means a friend, and that's exactly what our community theatre group is all about. ‘Marras’ is a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive space for anyone with a love of theatre and a desire to meet new people. Whether you’re passionate about performing or prefer to work behind the scenes, we’ve got something for everyone.
’Marras’ is open to anyone aged 18 and over with an interest in theatre. Sessions are free to attend with a suggested donation of £3. Our members have a wide range of skills and interests—some love to act, while others enjoy creating props, designing costumes, building sets, or managing backstage elements. Whatever your theatre passion, Marras is the perfect place to explore it.
Sessions run every Sunday evening from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Collective Space (14a Borough Road, Sunderland, SR1 1EP). We focus on developing skills and knowledge in a fun, relaxed, and social setting.
What Makes ‘Marras’ Special?
🌟 Performances: ‘Marras’ members work towards exciting projects, like our recent performance at the Fire Station for the Cultural Spring 10-year celebration and a showcase of duologues at the Royalty Theatre.
🎭 Professional Opportunities: You can also audition for Theatre Space's Summer Season of Shakespeare, where our community cast plays a vital role. In 2024 and 2025, our productions toured iconic venues across the region, including Jarrow Hall, Seventeen Nineteen, and the Durham Fringe Festival.
🤝 Friendship and Fun: We’re not just a theatre group—we’re a community. Come for the creativity and stay for the camaraderie.
